Your Honor Please, Gotta Believe What I Say...

A bunch of us went paid a visit to Supreme Court today. After the previous fruitless search for a good story, we, the bunch of unsatisfied students once again made our way to the latest available juicy trial that wasn't on the early morning list.

Similar to the recent days, I was the first one to arrive again. And you people know I'm always last to arrive. It's like my clock has been reset and now I'm like always half an hour early. It's not a bad thing. But it ain't necessarily all a good thing either.

We arranged to meet at City Hall by 2pm but I had earlier informed Nick that I might be a little late so he suggested for me to head straight over to the main entrace of the court. As much as I thought I was going to be late, again time defied me and I was the earliest bird.

Rosz and Sueann arrived next and soon after, Nick came. YY and Isaac were minutes apart. We did our routine scanning and proceeded to head up to Court 5C. Because of our previous experience with Supreme Court's extremely slow lift, we took the Hogwarts' Shifting Escalators instead. Well, they don't shift, exactly but the interior structure of Supreme Court was like a modernized version of Hogwarts with the layout of the escalators similar to that of J.K Rowling's famous School of Witchcraft and Wizadry.

A mistake on our part was thinking we came too early. The real fact was that the trial began late. Instead of the usual punctuality required in a courtroom, the hearing started at 4pm. Who knew what was the reason for the holdup?? Mayhap the judge went to lunch and had such a great time he forgot he had a case to settle??

Anywayz, it wasn't as hyped up as we thought it would be. This was a ten-year old murder case, you see and of course since all the excitement has died down it is inevitable to say that no one really cared except for the accused and the accused's family.

It was interesting to listen to the story unfold as we were brought back in time when all of us were either in our teens of mere adolescents. I hadn't even gotten my period ten years ago.

So, basically the lowdown was that the accused was provoked and acted in self-defence. True, using a fruit knife as a mode of threat isn't exactly the most brightest idea, period. As the truth revealed itself, it was said that it was the deceased who initiated the first fight. Apparently, one thing led to another; the accused got bashed with a Tiger Beer bottle and the deceased got stabbed.

Albeit once, the hit proved to be fatal because if it weren't the deceased would be in the stands now, wouldn't he??

The trial lasted for about an hour and a half with both parties stating their cases. The judge had a kind demeanor about him, not too strict but not so lenient either. In the end, the guy was sentenced to three years and nine months in jail, since he turned himself in on 16 January 2007.
Isaac left first to meet his girlfriend while YY and I were at the ladies and Sueann parted ways with us once we arrived at City Hall. The five of us decided to kill time by walking all the way to Marina Square just to sit and for the two girls to have an early dinner before they went off to class.

Nick and Rosz resigned to let me drag them along as I scouted around for Jan's presents. Not an easy task, I have to say. I don't know how she managed it with mine because her presents are definitely lesser than twenty-one and yet there I was, struggling to find that perfect gift that would scream her name even before I laid my eyes on it.

We proceeded to the basement of Suntec to break fast and spontaneously decided to break at Kenny Roger's. Now I know KR's ain't halal, yeah. So of course I declined consuming the meat portions and instead took a side bowl of Green Pasta Salad. Another reason for the choice of food was because I knew I would have tons of food back home therefore I saw no reason for me splurge on outside food.

Seriously guys, if you ever get hungry on the road just drop me holla, yeah?? I'll gladly spruce up something from the kitchen or grab whatever I can find on the snack-laden countertop and meet you. I don't know where all the food comes from, it's like as though our house is constantly raining food.

All I know is, I wake up, head down to La Cocina and *snap* I see Squiggles, Twiggies, Gardenia Double Chocolate Chip Muffins, Sambal Ikan Bilis Buns and I'm like, the heck??

Anywayz, the guys had their fill of macho meals. Nick opted for the normal quarter-part chicken with Coleslaw and Mashed Potatoes as sides while Rosz chose the Chicken Pot Pie with Mac & Cheese and Potato Salad as his sides. In the end, the sides were all being shared.

We trudged to Carrefour shortly after in search again, for Jan's presents. I stopped a couple of times and took little peeks into the stores which I thought would carry those presents but really, nothing caught my eye. As in, they didn't scream Jan's name and to me, that was unacceptable.

We got high on cheese-smelling at Carrefour's supermarket. I seriously don't know how that happened. One moment I was showing the guys the different cheeses --because I LOVE ALL kinds of cheese-- and the next moment we were all sniffing what resembled the stench of wet socks that had been kept refrigerated. For a long time.

I can't remember what the heck the cheese was except that it was trapezium-shaped, with the length higher than the width. It was stored in a box with perforrated holes and frankly, I didn't know the holes were for sniffing. So I was kinda stumped when Nick put his nose to it, took a whiff and grimaced.

Before I knew it, we were all taking turns inhaling the odor that was the sweaty cheese and bursting into fits of laughter. Now the inhaling part was due to curiosity. What I didn't understand was why the heck were we laughing the moment the stench hit our noses?? It was like as if the vile-smelling thing produced laughing gas.

That cheese was had some evil stuff in there. It was crazy.

I swear if you dangle that piece of wicked curdled milk, it may be potent enough to knock out someone.

I was actually on the hunt for either Honey Mustard or dry English Mustard and Paprika. It took us almost an hour to find the items. Why?? Because we were busy coming back for more foul-smelling fromage, that's why!!

And the guys weren't much help by making me laugh so much my sides hurt and I had to pee three times. Well, we did find my items. Rosz found the mustard while Nick located the spice rack. Not bad for guys, if I do say so myself.

We parted ways at the end of Suntec --our bus stops were all at different locations-- and I totally zonked out the minute my bum hit the seat. Between that arduous day at the court, entertaining the guys and all that walking around I was pretty sure I was bound to call a timeout sooner or later.

Laterz...
Lenny
