Since it was NYP's open-house today, the campus was on extra-buzz mode. Not that it affected any of us in any way. I did, however, see loads of people I hadn't seen for quite some time; the first people I recognized was Siu Mei & Benson boy coming down from the overhead bridge just as I was about to head for my morning class.
I shared a hug with Siu Mei while Benson insistently poked his fingers at my babats as we chatted for a few minutes & I had my first mild cardiac arrest of the morning. Siu Mei was in the same class as Benson!! *sighz*
Go, figure.
Life proceeded as per normal, with me skipping my morning IT Security lecture to keep Penese company & ate a hearty McDonald's breakfast meal; something the two of us hadn't done in such a long time. Delving into our Styrofoam plates filled with steamingly fluffy melt-in-the-mouth Hotcakes served with a solitary piece of juicy & tender chicken sausage & a warm, crispy slice of has brown with additional pieces of creamy butter that took such a long time to melt & of course, that trademark thick maple syrup, the kind that doesn't stick to the roof of your tongue but rather just slides through your tongue like decadent silk.
As usual, I dunked every item into the caramel, sweetening even the saltiest of hash browns. We talked about the usual stuff; how shitty Penese's lab was & how lazy Blome was in getting up early. Even before she told Penese to inform me that she wasn't coming for the early classes, I knew in hindsight that she wasn't coming for classes, period. The lazy puta. *cheeky wink*
Well, at least she came albeit only for the movie we were going to watch later in the day.
After Penese left me to my reading ways, I headed off for Database class only to be bored by Hameed's droning voice. To keep my eyes peeled, I whipped out my notebook & started jotting down the 26 letters of the alphabet. Its purpose was for me to label the names of any soccer player I could think of alphabetically. And succeed in it, I did. Twice, in fact. Except that I got stuck at letters Y & U although it was enough to keep me from falling flat onto my desk in front of Hameed who had actually called out my name to check if I had understood what he was blabbering about.
Yeah, that was how I was being reduced to without company. Even Delphine was absent for the lecture. Basket.
I took off the moment Hameed called it a day & went in search of Penese at her lab. On the way, I thought I'd caught a glimpse of an old friend, Hudha Bermuda Barracuda. As we neared, we both exchanged looks of I-know-it's-you-and-you-know-it's-me looks until we were near enough to actually run into each others' arms, screaming wildly with arms flailing about flagellently.
One thing was evident though. The force of both our very supple & curvaceous bodies -and boobs- sent enough impact to snap the thread from Hudha's necklace & sent a string of beads flying everywhere. We gasped in surprise as beads rolls onto the concrete floor but proceeded to give each other bear hugs all the same. Ahhh, I miss that old cow. Everytime I see Rachie baby, but I don't see her. Misses her buckets-worth.
When I popped my head into Penese's lab, it was only her & this guy from China. The rest or her labmates had either gone for lunch or were busy participating in the events of the open-house. She & I decided to stroll down to the atrium to watch the buzz of activity & interaction between students & visitors. We had each been given open-house T-shirts to wear but since my asshole ex of a class rep had reported that only XL was available, I gave away my share of the T-shirt. The design wasn't even that incredible. To be honest, it was worst than the last.
We strode down & made our way across the bridge to be halted by my two presidents from the Piano Ensemble whom kept harping me to come by the practice room & do a demo for our upcoming concert. In the middle, Raizan, who was performing for his Foreign Bodies group came by to give me & Penese a hug for good luck. After I was done with my peers, Gaya & Van were the next ones to join us.
As the four of us were conversing, my eye happened to latch onto a sandy brown head amidst the throng of people crossing the bridge that was slightly taller than your average Joe. By the way his back stood ramrod straight, a zing of memory flitted through my mind as I contemplated where I'd seen such a posture.
And I stared at the back of the person's head & the way he walked, it suddenly occurred to me that I knew the fella pretty well. Excusing myself from the group as hurriedly as I could, I picked up my pace to catch up with that oh-so-familiar figure. I was pretty sure who my target was.
When I let out a loud, "Oh, my GOD!!" to his back, he didn't even respond until I caught him by the arm & stepped in front of him.
"Romain Louvet, what the HELL are you doing here!!??" He was just as surprised to see me as I was with him.
I didn't even know whether to strangle him with my bare hands or give him a hug. Well, in the end I opted with the hug. I couldn't very well kill him in front of all these people, right??
Romain Louvet, one-sixth of the famous French Fries was back in town. Back in town since two weeks ago, it seemed. He had already secured his attachment with a Singapore company here, which was located in Loyang while he resided in Kembangan.
I must say, he looked way better than when he first came to Singapore, checkered shirts & all. When asked where those abominal shirts were, he told me that they were safely in France & he did not hesitate NOT to bring them along. Good, I had said & told him to just burn the pile. He had changed from his nerdy glasses to classy, rimless ones & his haircut was trimmed neatly minus all traces of metallic red that had once adorned his mousy brown head. He appeared fitter than before; just slightly beefier unlike his previously ramrod stick figure despite saying he didn't work out. All the same, he just looked so much un-nerdlike than before. I was proud of him for achieving to such great heights & told him so. Of course lahh, his head swelled bigger.
We shifted from the side of the bridge to the ledge in front of Food Junction; we talked for I guess, a solid hour & I almost forgot about poor Penese who was still left with Gaya & Van. Who would've known we had so much to discuss about. I demanded to know WHY he had sent me those emails & explained in his face how angry I was to have been the recepient of such things. Although we both knew he was in the wrong, he utterly refused to offer an apology, insisting that he'd need time to reconsider & that the matter should be put to rest.
One ponders upon how dunce one could be. One resisted the urge to box one's ears, although one was very tempted to do so.
See, that's the thing about these French. They're too damned arrogant for their own good. No wonder I never fancied any French soccer players. Hmpf.
As we were talking & reminiscing about the three months we had during FYP, a hand ruffled my curls & I turned to see yet another Thai buddy, Alvin on his way into FJ. A few moments later, Mori happened to come across us while we were chatting & like the saluad he was, starting spouting off nonsense like asking Romain in French if he wanted to sleep with me. What a moron.
As usual, Romain spouted off information that proved very useful for future references & purposes. Not that it was going to involve him, though.
Anywayz, I guess I was glad to see him again. It had been quite some time & well, one out of six ain't bad. Who cares if the other five Fries weren't interested in coming back?? Nyeh nyeh nyeh.
Laterz...
